Building Hope Through Microfinance: How CARD Continues to Empower Thousands in Northern Mindanao

In many communities across Northern Mindanao, financial struggles remain one of the biggest challenges among small entrepreneurs and low-income families. Yet for thousands of residents in Cagayan de Oro City and nearby provinces, hope and opportunity continue to grow through the services of CARD Bank and CARD SME Bank.

From small sari-sari store owners to aspiring entrepreneurs, many individuals have become members of the CARD community as they search for financial support that can help improve their livelihoods. Today, CARD has already expanded its reach in the region, including 12 operating units in Cagayan de Oro City alone, proving its growing impact on grassroots communities and local businesses.

CARD Bank and CARD SME Bank are both part of the CARD Mutually Reinforcing Institutions (CARD MRI), a group known for promoting financial inclusion and community development in the Philippines. Although both institutions share the same mission, each serves different sectors of society.

CARD Bank primarily focuses on grassroots communities and rural entrepreneurs. Through microfinance services, the institution provides small business loans, agricultural assistance, and basic savings programs designed for ordinary Filipinos who want to start or sustain their livelihood.

Meanwhile, CARD SME Bank caters to Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) that need bigger financial assistance to expand their operations. It offers specialized loans, including business and franchise loans that can reach up to ₱1 million without collateral. The bank also provides savings accounts, time deposits, and debit card services for its growing number of clients.

For many members, CARD is more than just a financial institution. It has become a partner in helping families achieve stability, sustain education, and build better futures. Several entrepreneurs shared that through proper financial guidance and access to capital, they were able to slowly improve their businesses despite economic challenges.

The increasing number of members in Northern Mindanao reflects the trust and confidence of communities toward CARD’s programs and services. As more people seek opportunities to grow their income and businesses, CARD continues to strengthen its mission of empowering Filipinos through accessible and community-based banking.

With its continued expansion and commitment to financial inclusion, CARD remains a strong example of how microfinance can help transform lives — one member, one family, and one community at a time.
